Quantum Jumping Made Easy

What if the future isn’t fixed, but instead a range of possible timelines shaped by our feelings, habits, and decisions? Quantum jumping is the idea that small shifts in perspective can gradually move us toward a better version of the future.

Quantum Jumping Made Easy

Is the future fixed, or is it changeable? Similar to the Schrodinger's Cat experiment, the answer is BOTH. While timelines follow the laws of physics and probability, we can sometimes choose the timeline that we experience. The act of observation is the act of selection.

Last month, we discussed the Cone of Possibility, a useful tool for maping out what the future looks like in practice. It's not a single monolithic thing, but a series of branching lines that lead to probable, possible, and preferred futures.

Here's where it gets juicy. By changing your point of view you can change your life. Think of it as an old-fashioned radio. You turn the knob to change your frequency. Different frequencies are tuned to different stations. And these stations provide different experiences for you, the listener.

Your emotions, thoughts, habits, and decisions all act like a tuning mechanism. Small shifts in perspective can gradually move you toward entirely different outcomes over time.

How do we navigate these timelines? By asking the right questions.

Here are are my favorites:

If I knew what I was doing, what would I do next?

This is such an amazing power tool. Maybe you don't have all the answers, but maybe there is some alternative version of yourself that does. Someone who has "been there, done that". Tune into that version of yourself. Listen. What's the message, how does it feel? What seems to be the path of action?

If you keep doing this, you eventually will find that timeline and become that person.

Here's another one...

What can I do now to make this worthwhile in hindsight?

When I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I used it as an excuse to get into the best shape of my life. I lost 40 pounds, built my endurance, and got my A1C (sugar) levels to a manageable level. Covid lockdown was miserable for everyone, but for me it meant going out a lot less and eating better.

Back in 2011, my previous employer was bought out and I lost my job. Because of a non-compete agreement, I couldn't work in the advisory business for 18 months. It was a perfect time to brush up on my futurist skills by writing my first book -- this led to all kinds of opportunities.

And when I could start my own business, I had a clear vision of what I wanted... an investment firm with a focus on the future.

Quantum jumping is about getting to the nearest adjacent better future. Keep making the right choices, starting with the end in mind.
